Eleven drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint in Fresno over the weekend, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.

The checkpoint was held at Blackstone and Garland avenues on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to officials.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 21 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended or revoked license.

Officers made contact with 368 vehicles during the seven-hour operation.

Police said checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

The primary goal is to increase public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road, officials said.

The next DUI checkpoint is scheduled for May 17.
